The catalytic process in which reactants and catalyst are in different phases is known as Heterogeneous Catalysis and catalyst involved in this process is called of Heterogeneous Catalyst. Usually in heterogeneous catalysis, the reactants are gases and reaction starts from surface of solid catalyst. This is the reason why heterogeneous catalyst is also called ‘surface catalysis’.
